Nine things you donât know about flexible jobs: Telecommuting increased 115% in the last decade. Through 2019, 48 percent of HR professionals predict that the workforce will become more flexible. Telecommuting is more common among employees over 35 years of age and most common among baby boomers. 80 percent of employers plan to increase their flexible workforce. 50% of the U.S. workforce holds a job that is compatible with at least partial telework and approximately 20-25% of the workforce teleworks at some frequency. Flexible jobs can be found in over 50 job categories. Flexible jobs come in various forms, including flexible schedules, alternative schedules, part-time schedules, freelance contracts, and telecommuting. In the early part of the 20th century, flexible work was considered our typical five-day workweek. Prior to those changes, people worked six days per week with hours ranging between 60 and 70 on a weekly basis. Flexible work continues to increase as family dynamics continue to change.
